September 2, 2004 - The Coronation of George Bush II

Amidst an astounding police presence, thousands of protesters lined the streets of New York, as George Bush gave his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention. Bush's motorcade arrived at about 9:00 PM and he was greeted with a chorus of boos as he approached the convention.

The permitted rally near Madison Square Garden, where the convention was held, stretched for 12 blocks, with the police controlling each block by keeping protesters in one pen per block. Moving between the pens was at times difficult.

Earlier in the day, a group calling themselves "true patriots," dressed in American Revolution period costumes, toppled an effigy of George Bush. Then they read the Declaration of Independence and asked all of those present to sign it. The following are photos from throughout the day.
